The Ella T. Grasso Scholarship

The Ella T. Grasso Scholarship is awarded in memory of our former governor to a student with demonstrated community service and interested in government studies.


The recipient of the $500 Woodbury Democratic Party Ella T. Grasso Memorial
Scholarship for 2009 is Gen Dorgan, a 2009 Nonnewaug High School graduate who will begin studies this fall at Kenyon College in Ohio, was honored recently as recipient of this year’s Ella Grasso Memorial Scholarship at a reception held by the Woodbury Democratic Town Committee. The annual scholarship, sponsored by the DTC and administered by the Woodbury Scholarship Fund, recognizes student accomplishment and interest in pursuing studies in the fields of government and political science. Ms. Dorgan, previously recognized by the DTC for exemplary student leadership as a volunteer in town Democratic activities, earned several academic awards and participated in literary, debate, social justice and music groups at Nonnewaug, serving as editor-in-chief of the school literary magazine and performing in the NHS jazz band, brass quintet, pit band and chamber singers. She plans to pursue studies in history and journalism at Kenyon.
